Brazos County commissioners will meet April 21 to consider nearly $7.8 million in funding transfers to support local hospitals and Medicaid-related health programs. They will also consider infrastructure, public safety and development items.

The largest agenda items involve two intergovernmental transfers to the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, funded through the county’s Local Provider Participating Fund.

According to agenda material, the programs help hospitals offset the cost of providing Medicaid services and support technology upgrades, which improve how patient health information is shared between health care providers and managed care organizations.
“The goal of this increased interoperability is to improve client outcomes and implement, evaluate, improve, and mature alternative payment for Medicaid beneficiaries,” agenda material reads.
The payments must be submitted to the state by the end of April to remain eligible for reimbursement programs.

Commissioners are also expected to:
- Consider participation in a new national opioid settlement agreement
- Review a post-election hand-count audit from the March 2026 primary election and Precinct 2 recount
- Consider approval for the Public Defenders Office to apply for Texas Indigent Defense Commission grants, which are in percentage-based reimbursable amounts and include:
- Continuing grant, requesting $1.7 million
- Juvenile/Appellate grant, requesting $1.2 million
- Mental Health grant, requesting about $305,000
- Approve a no-cost email security partnership with The University of Texas at Austin Regional Security Operations Center
- Approve a feasibility study on relocation options for the Brazos County District Attorney’s Office, which will cost nearly $115,000
Many infrastructure and development items are also on the agenda, including road reconstruction bids for Democrat and Dick Elliot roads, subdivision plats, and Comcast’s continued installation work across the county.
