The Bryan Planning and Zoning Commission recommended rezoning 2.05 acres in west Bryan after the city found it was being used as an unauthorized lumberyard during P&Z’s Nov. 5 meeting.

According to agenda material, the city notified the Sandy Point Road property of violations in fall 2025 and met with the property owner this May, directing Ramiro Quintero to cease the lumberyard. The city then analyzed the property and found multiple structures requiring conditional use permits.
Staff recommended the commission approve the request on the condition the lumberyard stop its commercial work and that other structures not permitted be demolished or moved from the property. City Project Planner Benjamin Johnson said the structures could cause traffic problems and adverse impacts to other property owners in the area.
“We need to have discretion with the potential adverse effects all of this could have,” Johnson said.
