College Station ISD’s board of trustees will discuss several major funding and safety items at its March 17 meeting, including the estimated cost of adding seat belts to school buses and purchases tied to the district’s 2023 bond.

According to the meeting agenda, trustees are expected to consider a number of notable items:
- School bus safety upgrades: The board will review an estimated $570,000 cost to retrofit 19 buses with three-point seat belts, as required by Senate Bill 546. The district currently has 120 buses, though 30 without seatbelts will be retired within the next two years.
- Nearly $1 million in classroom furniture: Trustees will consider approving $957,742.94 for furniture, installation and debris removal for expansions at College Station and A&M Consolidated high schools and the district’s new Career and Technical Education facility. The purchase would use funds from the 2023 bond.
- New CTE staff positions: Administrators are asking the board to approve additional staff for the expanding CTE center, including positions tied to the new automotive, welding, construction and cosmetology programs.
