How to volunteer for Beryl cleanup efforts underway in and around Houston's Inner Loop

Several opportunities to volunteer for Hurricane Beryl cleanup efforts have been arranged throughout Houston's Inner Loop, including at local parks and within neighborhoods.

1. Buffalo Bayou Park: The Buffalo Bayou Partnership is hosting volunteer efforts at Buffalo Bayou Park, which took severe damage during Beryl. The park's maintenance crews have already cleared more than 100 downed trees, but additional volunteer efforts will take place at the Houston Police Officer Memorial; horticultural restoration will take place at the Barbara Fish Daniel Nature Play Area, the Jane Gregory Garden, the Eleanor Tinsley Garden and Lost Lake; conservation work will occur within native prairies and wildflower meadows; and park-wide debris removal will happen. Volunteer opportunities are available from 8:30-11:30 a.m. July 17-19, and the park's Open Volunteer Day will take place July 20. Learn more here.

2. Hermann Park: The Hermann Park Conservancy is hosting ongoing volunteer efforts for cleanup activities at the park. Volunteers should bring refillable water bottles, closed-toe shoes and long pants. Conservancy staff will provide gloves, snacks and other supplies. Learn more here.

• Greenway Trail cleanup: Efforts will take place from 9 a.m.-noon July 17. Volunteers should park in Lot I, next to Lott Hall at 6201 Hermann Park Drive, and check in at the Conservancy tent.
• Japanese Garden cleanup: Efforts will take place from 9 a.m.-noon July 18. Volunteers should park in Lot A near the Japanese Garden and follow volunteer signs to the service entrance of the garden.

• Heart of the park: Efforts will take place during the day July 19-20. Volunteers will meet at the Pedal Boat Kiosk in Lake Plaza after entering through Lot G near the zoo or Lot E.

3. General Harris County needs: Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo called on county residents where possible in a July 12 address, particularly when it comes to removing trees, tarping roofs and picking up debris. Individuals—both skilled and unskilled—as well as organizations can reach out here to find opportunities for cleanup in neighborhoods. Volunteers can sign up here for morning and afternoon shifts through July 21.

4. General Houston-area opportunities: The Restoration Team is seeking volunteers to help with cleanup work in the Houston area for those affected by Beryl. Volunteers remove debris and take it to designated areas for pickup and may also clean up water damage inside homes. Sign up for general opportunities here.

5. Hyde Park: Organized by the Hyde Park Civic Association, a cleanup effort will take place in the Montrose neighborhood from 8:30-10:30 a.m. July 27. Volunteers are meeting at 1408 Michigan St., Houston, and will work along Waugh Drive starting at Westheimer Road. Volunteers should bring sturdy gloves.
