Bellaire nonprofit Second Servings has expanded to the Galveston area a program providing take-home, chef-prepared, family meals to furloughed and unemployed hospitality workers, the nonprofit announced April 15.
Beginning April 17 and continuing on every Friday moving forward, Second Servings has partnered with the Galveston Restaurant Association to bring 1,200 meals to those in need through the “Dinner’s On Us” program, with meals prepared by Hess’ Food Services.
Volunteers from the restaurant association will distribute the meals in a contact-free drive-thru procedure in the parking lot of Mario’s Seawall Italian Restaurant at 628 Seawall Blvd., Galveston, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., while supplies last, according to Second Servings.
The 1,200 meals supplied for Galveston comes in addition to the 10,000 meals total the nonprofit hopes to distribute in Houston. Those distribution efforts began April 9.
