After being closed since June 29, 2020, the Bellaire City Library will soon reopen.
The library will reopen to limited public usage starting 10 a.m. April 7, the city of Bellaire announced April 5.
"Libraries exist for our community," Director Mary Cohrs said. "We're ready to interact with our readers again."
Once the library reopens, users will be able to browse and check out books from the library’s collection, use the computers and printer/copier, and seek information.
However, safety and health measures remain in place. The library will not only enforce building capacity restrictions but will require social distancing and facial coverings.
The library will also limit computer time to one hour and may close the library for short periods in order to sanitize the interior.
Programming will continue virtually, storytimes will still be recorded and presented on the library’s Facebook page, and craft kits will still be sent home for children.
With its reopening, the library will enter the first phase of its three-phase reopening plan. This phase allows for a maximum of 25% capacity. In the near future, the library will continue both its curbside and pop-up library programs.
The library first closed at the end of March due to COVID-19 restrictions, then attempted to reopen before closing once more at the end of June.
Modified hours will be Mon.-Thu. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Fri.-Sat. 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
