At the Houston ISD board of managers’ June 11 meeting, a decision on the district’s fiscal year 2026-27 budget was postponed to June 25, but the preliminary tax rates were unveiled.
What’s new
HISD’s FY 2026-27 preliminary total tax rate is $0.8421 per $100 valuation, according to a June 11 presentation from Daniel Flores, HISD’s senior executive director of budgeting. The tax rate is $0.0362 lower than the current total tax rate, which is $0.8783 per $100 valuation.
The preliminary total for taxable property values within HISD's boundaries for FY 2026-27 increased by 0.24% year over year to $232.62 billion, according to Flores’ presentation. Comparing FY 2026-27 to FY 2025-26, the projected total taxable values for property categories:
- Increased 2.44% for residential and rural property
- Increased 2.38% for apartments
- Dropped 18.49% for personal commercial property
