Houston is set to host seven matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup at NRG Stadium, including a pair of matches in the knockout round, FIFA officials announced Feb. 4.

In 2022, FIFA announced Houston was one of 16 cities across Canada, Mexico and the U.S. that would host matches for the tournament in 2026.
In all, 104 matches with a 48-country field are planned for the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted by three countries for the first time in tournament history.

Houston Mayor John Whitmire said it was an honor for the city to host the event in a Feb. 4 statement.
“Hosting such a prestigious event will provide an incredible opportunity for our city to showcase its culture, hospitality and infrastructure on a global stage,” Whitmire said in a statement. “We are committed to working closely with FIFA to ensure that all preparations are in place to welcome the world and provide an unforgettable experience for players, fans and visitors.”
