League City dog park reopens after 2-week closure

The Bark Park at Lynn Gripon Park at Countryside reopened April 27 after being closed since April 13 while city crews installed a new irrigation system.

Why it matters

The city pursued the upgrades to support healthier grass, new trees and a better space for dogs to play, while also helping reduce seasonal ground cracking during hot, dry summers, according to previous reporting from Community Impact.

According to visitors

Roger Gray said while the park was closed, he took his 8-month-old dog, Biggio, named after the retired Astros player, to Walter Hall Park, located at 807 SH 3 N., League City, and let her swim out of the boat ramp, but said his dog enjoys the Bay Area Avenue park’s areas shaded by trees.

After the park closed, Gray also took his dog to Hometown Heroes Park, located at 1001 E. League City Parkway, League City, which doesn’t have as many trees, and said he’s especially thankful the park reopened quickly as temperatures rise.

“[In the] summertime, it’s going to be boiling,” Gray said.

Suzanne Reader said she took her dog Ducky to other parks, but said she missed the convenience of being close to her “home base.” Reader said there’s one improvement to the park she thinks the city could make.

“I thought when they said irrigation system, they would also put in a splash pad here,” Reader said. “That would be nice.”
