Phases I and II of Kemah’s 57-acre park and nature area, including a playground, will open to the public July 30 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, according to a city news release.

The ceremony, which will include a demonstration of the park’s features, words from city leaders and an opportunity for children to explore the new play equipment, will take place at 9 a.m. at 1860 Park Oaks St., Kemah.
The project, which is expected to cost between $5 million and $6 million, broke ground in September 2024, Community Impact previously reported.
The goal of the park, which the city hopes will promote the area’s eco-tourism, is to provide a habitat for animals, birds and insects that are indigenous to the area, according to the city’s website. It will also be a place where visitors can observe and learn about the specific species in the area.
Looking ahead
While phases I and II of the project are complete, the project has additional phases that will be completed within five to 10 years, according to the city’s website. Those will include building boardwalks over wetlands, planting native grasses, constructing an amphitheater-style outdoor classroom and wildlife viewing platforms.
