Clear Creek ISD is expanding the family portal on the district’s website to answer questions parents may have as the district adopts a new state-approved curriculum, including Bluebonnet Math.
The details
CCISD’s board of trustees discussed the portal and ongoing concerns over parent confusion on new standards and grading metrics at an Oct. 19 workshop.
What parents are saying
Families expressed confusion over the district’s transition to attaching numerical grades to 1–4 skill progression marks and exit tickets, according to a survey of 200 CCISD families conducted by Brookwood Elementary parent Bevin Hartnett, who spoke at the meeting.
Hartnett said the implementation of Bluebonnet Math had been rolled out too quickly.
"The overwhelming conclusion [is] our children are confused and sad, our teachers are just trying to keep their heads above water, and our parents are frustrated and angry," Hartnett said of his survey’s findings.
Bluebonnet Learning’s K-5 program places a strong emphasis on written mathematical reasoning and justification, and includes a daily review, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.
Going forward
To address parents' concerns, the district’s communications department is expanding the portal to clearly outline expectations and grading structures.
The portal will include:
Grade-level guides explaining the Bluebonnet Math curriculum
Direction to Zearn.org, which has an AI assistant to walk students through concepts at home
Explanation of grading and exit ticket functions
