Kemah Boardwalk restaurants, retail shops reopen at 25% capacity

More than a dozen restaurants and retail shops at the Kemah Boardwalk are reopening at 25% capacity in accordance with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s reopening plan.

Landry’s, the company responsible for operating the boardwalk, reopened more than 130 restaurants across the state May 1, according to an April 30 news release. Employees will be screened daily with temperature checks, per the release.

The release also said employees will be permitted to wear face masks or will use them at the request of guests. Hand sanitizing stations will be available for guests at the entry of each location.

Restaurants will offer disposable menus and no-touch menu options to diners and implement additional sanitization steps for condiments and utensils. Signage will be posted to indicate social distancing measures, including spacing seated tables, and high-traffic areas such as playgrounds will be closed.

Landry’s Chief Operating Officer Keith Beitler said in the release that diners can expect a different experience compared to before the pandemic.

“This will be a unique dining experience setting a standard for the ‘new normal’ in the hospitality industry,” Beitler said in the release. “Reopening to 25% capacity is a step in the right direction to putting [Landry’s employees] back to work.”
