Bastrop dogs fetch new Bark Park perks

Bastrop dogs will soon have more to wag about after Bark Park improvements kicked off Aug. 14, with new ways to play, cool off and stay out later on the way.

The update

City crews began moving dirt for two new solar lights on Friday—the first of a slate of city-led upgrades that will also include new water stations, a wash station, agility equipment and signage.

“It was 13 months ago that we held a Community Improvement Meeting with Dog Park users, the city manager, City Council and city staff to discuss ideas and priorities for Bastrop’s Bark Park,” Council Member Kerry Fossler told Community Impact. “It’s thrilling to see this coming to life.”

Other planned upgrades include:

• New water stations
• One new wash station
• Agility equipment
• New signage

The dog park currently offers:

• One dog wash station
• Two dog waste stations
• One small-dog play area
• One large-dog play area

How we got here
The work follows more than a year of discussion about improvements to the 1.2-acre park at 101 Grady Tuck Lane.

As previously reported by Community Impact, the city in July 2025 designated the approximately 1.2-acre site as parkland, protecting it from future development.
Fossler said the park is not currently closed for renovations; however, that could change as construction progresses.

She noted that most of the new amenities should be in place by mid-September.

Before you go

The park is among several recreational spaces receiving attention as Bastrop expands and improves its parks system—including recent upgrades at Mayfest Park Rodeo Arena in early August.

"We wanted the kids to be able to use the new splash pads and covered playgrounds all summer," Fossler said. "Now it’s time for Bark Park fun."
