Residents have a chance to help a local nonprofit dedicated to preserving and highlighting Bastrop County heritage.

In a nutshell

The Bastrop County Historical Society will host its second annual Day of Giving on Saturday to raise support for the Bastrop Visitor Center & Museum's educational programming, exhibits and community events.

Donations can be made in person or online here.

Museum spokesperson Rachel Hatch said each donation of $10 or more offers visitors a chance to:

Go behind the scenes: Explore the archives and see how BCHS volunteers and staff preserve historic artifacts.
Preview upcoming exhibits: Get a sneak peek at upcoming permanent exhibits, including one dedicated to the Tonkawa tribe.
Explore the most recent exhibit: "Soul Circuit: Juneteenth Rodeo."
Discover museum programs and events: Learn about the different programs, exhibits, and events.

One more thing

The one-day fundraising campaign coincides with a special time in Bastrop County's history.

"The event is held in August to commemorate Stephen F. Austin's journey through the area, during which he famously wrote that this would be an ideal place for settlement," officials said.
