'Share the Love' food drive runs through Feb. 14 in Bastrop

The Tahitian Village Property Owners Association is collecting shelf-stable food for the Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry.

In a nutshell

Those able to donate can do so at the TVPOA office, 112 Corporate Drive, Bastrop, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

According to a news release, the following foods are needed:

• Canned fruits, meats, vegetables, soups and meats—pop-tops preferred
• Hot and cold breakfast cereals
• Dried and instant potatoes, macaroni and cheese, rice, pasta, and nuts
• Single-serve snacks, such as applesauce, fruit cups, peanut butter crackers, granola bars and more

"It truly takes a village," TVPOA officials said in the news release. "We hope you will share the love with our neighbors in Bastrop County."

Some context

Food insecurity in Bastrop is growing at a rapid rate," said Kelly Manfredini, director of marketing and communications with the Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry.

The Bastrop pantry served 80% more people between 2020 and 2023, and those numbers continue to grow.

In a previous interview with Community Impact, Manfredini said the BCEFP has to depend more on monetary and food donations from residents and businesses to keep up with the need.

To help fight local hunger, BCEFP will expand its offerings when it opens a new building in late 2025.
