Those projects, Douglas said, include the nonprofit joining the Austin LGBT Chamber of Commerce, and an upcoming launch party for the Bastrop Chapter of Austin PFLAG.

"The Austin LGBT Chamber of Commerce is the largest gathering of LGBT-owned and allied businesses and organizations in Central Texas," new vice chair Alyssa Blanco said. "They have a division called 'Small Town, Big Pride' for surrounding counties. We are excited to be connected to this resource, not only for us as Bastrop Pride, but also for the connections and exposure it will provide for our community."

On Oct. 1, Bastrop Pride members will host a kickoff party with snacks, drinks and socializing to commemorate its first PFLAG Bastrop meeting.

Blanco said all community members are welcome to join the celebration and first PFLAG Bastrop meeting, which will take place from 6:45-8 p.m. in Parish Hall at Calvary Episcopal Church.

"PFLAG has tons of resources and support information for us to tap into," Blanco said. "There are webinars, printed materials and in-person meet-ups designed to connect people to the community. The resources will help us learn different perspectives ... and help us assist people who need that connection, guidance and support."

Blanco said the PFLAG Bastrop support group will continue to meet on the first Tuesdays of each month.
