Community members can celebrate Independence Day in Bastrop on Saturday, June 28, with a full day of activities, including a patriotic pet parade, a nonmotorized group cruise, a downtown treasure hunt and an evening of games capped off with fireworks.

Dressed in festive attire, pets of all kinds will strut down Main Street with their humans for the annual Pets and Pals Parade.
“It is absolutely the cutest, shortest parade ever,” event organizer Debbie Denny previously told Community Impact. “We’ve had every type of dog there is, as well as cats, owls, ponies, llamas, iguanas, ferrets and tortoises—you name it, they’ve probably been in our parade.”
Previously set for 10 a.m., event organizers said the parade start time was moved up to 9 a.m. to keep paws cool during the summer heat.

Pine Street to Main Street to Spring Street, Bastrop
Following the parade, attendees can join a group cruise along South Main Street.
“Bring your bikes, scooters, wagons, strollers—anything nonmotorized—and enjoy a morning of patriotic family fun as we turn Main Street into a safe, car-free zone for cruising and celebrating,” officials said in an event post.
Attendees are encouraged to decorate their ride before or during the event at a DIY station.

Main Street will feature field day-style games, including sack races, water balloon tosses, cornhole and more, officials said.
