Chubby’s Barbershop has relocated from 901 Main St. to a new downtown Bastrop location on Water Street.
"The timing couldn’t have been more perfect," owner Christopher "Chubby" Higgins told Community Impact. "My team loves the new space, our clients love the parking and the atmosphere, and honestly, we haven’t missed a beat."
What happened
Higgins said the move was necessary after he received notice to vacate the barbershop’s previous space because of a planned change in the property’s use by the city.
Higgins connected with the Bastrop Economic Development Corp. through its Start Smart program, which eventually led him to tour 804 Water St.
The city originally bought the Water Street property as part of a proposed downtown parking garage; however, as previously reported, officials were unable to secure the surrounding properties needed for the project, which is now on hold.
