The Travis County Parks Department announced on Friday afternoon that Hamilton Pool, located at 24300 Hamilton Pool Road in Dripping Springs, will be reopened to swimmers May 1.

Two drownings occurred there in 2016, prompting the department to temporarily close the pool to swimmers to determine how to best mitigate future drownings. According to the release, loaner life jackets in varying sizes will now be located at the entrance to the pool, where instructions for how to determine the appropriate size and fit will be shown. Throw rings have also been placed around the pool in case of emergency.

Still, the pool may be closed at times when high bacteria counts are present, the release stated. Bacterial water testing at the pool is conducted regularly.

Reservations for Hamilton Pool can be made here.
