Locally-owned bakery The Great British Baking Company opened Dec. 14 in downtown Dripping Springs at 104 W. Mercer St. and offers traditional British pastries and goods. The bakery is owned by father and son Andrew and Johnty Scriven, who are originally from Yorkshire, England. The family has resided in Dripping Springs for two years and came up with the idea for the bakery about a year ago.

“It’s all the things we miss from home,” Scriven said. “It’s been so popular with the British and South African community here in Dripping Springs.”

Everything is made fresh in-house every day, and customers can dine-in or take-out. The store also offers options to be baked at home. A classic sausage roll, scotch egg and sticky toffee pudding are some of the traditional British foods customers can order.

Scriven performed all the renovations to the shop, which previously housed Sharman Family Clinic.
