Global semiconductor company Tokyo Electron Ltd. will be expanding out of its longtime home in Southeast Austin to nearly 100,000 square feet of space just south of downtown.

Tokyo Electron, which maintains a headcount of more than 400 employees locally, has operated from its headquarters at 2400 Grove Blvd. for decades. That space is located next door to The University of Texas Montopolis Research Center—formerly home to the semiconductor consortium SEMATECH—and down the block from fellow semiconductor company Infineon Technologies.

In February, Tokyo Electron officials shared the company is now set to occupy space in the RiverSouth tower off South First Street and Riverside Drive across from Auditorium Shores. The 372,000-square-foot, 15-story office project from Stream Realty Partners opened in 2022.

“For 30 years, Tokyo Electron’s North American Headquarters has been located in Southeast Austin. We can confirm that we have signed a lease at RiverSouth, and we are excited to enhance and grow our presence in new spaces in Austin for decades to come. We are enthusiastic about what lies ahead for our employees, stakeholders and customers," Rick Turner, Tokyo Electron's executive vice president, CFO and general manager of administration, said in a statement.

Tokyo Electron will lease 98,761 square feet at RiverSouth and is not planning to downsize its Austin presence with the move. The company remains one of many semiconductor industry members based around Central Texas.
