No May election to be held for San Marcos CISD board of trustees

San Marcos CISD will not hold a board of trustees election in May, as no challengers filed for a place on the ballot for the District 4 and District 5 seats.

Two-minute impact

Candidates were eligible to file for a place on the ballot between Jan. 15-Feb. 14. During the filing period, John McGlothlin and incumbent Clementine Cantu were the only candidates to file for the District 4 and 5 seats, respectively.

The District 4 seat is currently held by Brian Shanks, who was first elected to the board in 2022. Shanks did not refile, and McGlothlin is the sole candidate.

McGlothlin previously served on the board from 2015-21, including terms as president and vice president.

The District 5 seat is currently held by Cantu, who also serves as vice president. Cantu was first elected to the board in 2016 and was the sole candidate to file for the seat.
