Initial concepts for a new San Marcos city hall development project were presented to the City Council in October 2022. After four years of progress in reviewing concepts, funding and potential locations, the council will hear a project update June 16 during a work session.
The gist
The Hopkins City Center/New City Hall project includes the development of a new city hall building and enhancements to the Hopkins Street corridor, according to the city of San Marcos website. The project’s scope includes:
- Walkable civic corridor featuring city services
- Community gathering spots
- New mixed-use development
- Structured parking
- Road and city gateway improvements
The current city hall was opened in 1975. Through site evaluations, multiple deficiencies with the building’s structural integrity have been identified, according to the website.
