Texas State University System Board of Regents approve hotel on San Marcos campus
The Texas State University System Board of Regents recently voted to authorize Texas State University to enter into a development agreement with Midway—a private Houston-based developer—to build a hotel on its San Marcos campus.
The agreement is the next step for a $70 million hotel, with 130 guest rooms. The project, located on just over three acres at 429 and 403 N. Guadalupe St., San Marcos—just south of Tower Hall and across from Target—will also include a full-service restaurant and bar along with meeting and event space, according to a press release from Texas State University. There is an older home—the Richard A. Castro Undergraduate Admissions Center—that resides on the 3.88-acre property, which will be removed, Algoe told Community Impact.

$4.13M Eastside Campus to bring county services to Kyle
Kyle residents may soon gain easier access to Hays County services, as the construction of a new administrative building is making progress.
Hays County Commissioners Court approved an agreement with HDR Architecture for design services for the building, not to exceed $4.13 million, at a Dec. 2 meeting.
“We’ve had conversations in the past that it’s important to bring those services to the east side of I-35, which we have none currently,” Precinct 1 Commissioner Debbie Gonzales Ingalsbe said.

$27M Buda project breaks ground on local shops, community spaces
Buda residents and visitors can expect a fresh place to shop, dine and hang out by late 2026 when businesses at The Roundabout in Buda are expected to begin opening.
The Roundabout in Buda broke ground in early October, marking the start of a development designed to serve local families and businesses—blending dining and retail with trails, patios, playgrounds and open spaces that encourage community connection.
“It’s also completely local,” said Tim Dowling, developer and broker for the project.

New Kyle development breaks ground, set to create 200 jobs
A new retail development—named Kyle City Limits—broke ground at 3933 Kyle Crossing on Oct 1.
The project is being developed in two phases by property owner Joseph Phillips—whose family has owned it since 1993.
J.D. Sanford, the broker on the project, said in an email to Community Impact that the development will include an AutoZone and a Spec’s Wines, Spirits & Finer Food.
“We hope to have AutoZone and Spec’s open for business by Thanksgiving 2026,” Sanford said in the email.

$6M San Marcos Fire Station No. 3 remodel underway
San Marcos is revamping Fire Station No. 3.
Veronica Bradshaw, a purchasing manager with the city, previously detailed the scope of the project, which includes:
- Expanding the apparatus bays
- Incorporating contemporary firefighter health and safety features
- Improving overall energy efficiency
- Adding a designated fitness area
- Redesigning the interior to improve response capabilities and operational efficiency
- Building an enclosure for the generator and dumpsters that meets current city codes
- Paving new site access
