State Sen. Donna Campbell announces re-election campaign at luncheon in San Antonio on Thursday

State Sen. Donna Campbell, R-New Braunfels, announced Thursday she would be seeking re-election for District 25.

The area she represents includes Kyle, San Marcos, parts of San Antonio and parts of Austin.

Campbell announced her candidacy for the 2018 race at the San Antonio Republican Women's luncheon.

An emergency room doctor from New Braunfels, Campbell was first elected to the Texas Senate in 2012. She serves as chairwoman of the Veteran Affairs and Border Security Committee and sits on the Education, Business and Commerce, and Intergovernmental Relations committees.

Campbell won re-election in 2014 with 65.2 percent of the vote.

During the 2017 regular and special session, she authored or sponsored 110 pieces of legislation, including bills related to abortion complication reporting and municipal annexation reform. Fifty-three of those became law.
