San Marcos CISD announced Jan. 31 that campuses will be closed Feb. 1. Officials will monitor the weather and determine if offices and campuses will remain closed Feb. 2 as well.

As of press time, Hays CISD remains set on returning to campus Feb. 2.

With inclement weather on the horizon, Hays CISD and San Marcos CISD will be making several schedule changes beginning late afternoon Jan. 31-Feb 2.


There will be an early dismissal for Hays CISD and San Marcos CISD students Jan. 31.

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning starting Jan. 30 to the Central Texas area including New Braunfels, San Marcos, Buda, Kyle, Austin, Georgetown and more. Significant ice on roads is expected, and travel is discouraged as up to half an inch of ice may be present.

High school students at Hays CISD will be dismissed at 1 p.m., middle school students at 2 p.m.. Elementary school students will be dismissed at 2:55 p.m., which is their normal time. Transportation will run its bus schedules and provide service to bus riders at the early dismissal times, according to an email from Tim Savoy, the district’s chief communications officer. All after-school activities are canceled.

SMCISD high school students will be released at 1:15 p.m. Middle school students will be dismissed at 1:40 p.m., and elementary students at 2 p.m. Bonham will also be released at 2 p.m. High school students will be dismissed first to be available to care for younger siblings, and elementary students will be released last, according to the SMCISD website. After-school activities will be canceled until Tuesday.


On Tuesday, Jan. 31, and Wednesday, Feb. 1, all Hays CISD schools and offices will be closed. All after-school activities will be canceled until Wednesday, Feb. 1, when after-school activities may resume.

HCISD is expecting to return to its normal schedule on Thursday, Feb. 2, and SMCISD will continue to monitor the weather to determine if offices/campuses will open on Wednesday, Feb.1.
