Construction on Round Rock Public Safety Training Center expansion begins

Construction on a $25 million expansion to the Round Rock Public Safety Training Center began in February.

What you need to know

The contractor working on the expansion, Adolfson & Peterson Construction, announced the start of construction Feb. 3 in a news release. The release highlighted the expansion's scope, stating that it will add over 6,000 square feet to the facility where fire fighters, EMS staff and police officers train to serve the Round Rock community.

In addition to a new stand-alone classroom building, storage space for police and fire equipment, a high-speed driving track, large skills pad and observation tower will be added to the existing facility.

Cost to taxpayers

Funded by a 2023 voter-approved bond package, the project will increase the center's classroom space and keep officers and firefighters in town for training, reducing local competition for training space, as well as avoiding the expense of travel and lodging.

What's next?

Construction is expected to conclude in 2027, at which time the property will be fully built out.
