Chisholm Trail Road in Round Rock closed July 13 and will remain so through early August due to scheduled work on RM 620, according to a city news release.

The closure stretches between RM 620 and Sunset Drive due to utility work related to the RM 620 project.

Traffic will be detoured to northbound and southbound I-35 frontage roads and Sunset Drive, per the release. From the detour, traffic will then be able to access Chisholm Trail north of the closure.

The city of Round Rock, Williamson County and the Texas Department of Transportation celebrated the kickoff of the RM 620 project with a March 11 groundbreaking ceremony. The project runs along RM 620 from I-35 to Deep Wood Drive and will take approximately 28-30 months to complete, TxDOT Regional Engineer Bobby Ramthun said in March.

Major enhancements to the roadway include two overpasses, located over the railroad tracks at the Chisholm Trail and RM 620 intersection as well as Lake Creek Drive; a roundabout constructed beneath the bridge at the railroad tracks; and the widening of RM 620 from five to six lanes in certain sections of the project scope.

Some portions along the route will maintain a four-lane structure, according to project plans.
