Hutto Assistant City Manager Helen Ramirez is leaving the leadership team at Hutto City Hall to take a position with the city of Brownsville, according to a Feb. 1 press release issued by the city of Hutto.

“Helen is an outstanding leader and incredible talent that I along with our
executive team, staff, City Council and citizens will deeply miss. She has been loyal, hard working and a significant part of renewing the city government in Hutto, and we wish her and her family well,” Hutto City Manager Odis Jones said in a press release.

Ramirez joined the city of Hutto as director of Development Services in 2015 and worked her way up to the position of assistant city manager for Jones' executive team.

In her time in Hutto, Ramirez has been involved in several of the largest development projects the city has ever announced, including the mixed-use development Co-Op District and Titan Innovation Business Park.

According to the press release, Ramirez has more than 20 years of municipal planning, including 10 years in the private sector.

“We as a City Council have seen Helen grow as a professional, particularly over the last four years,” Mayor Doug Gaul said in the press release. “She has been the City Manager’s right-hand executive leader as they managed the growth of this City."

Ramirez is joining the city of Brownsville leadership staff as deputy city manager. Brownsville is a coastal Texas city that sits on the United States-Mexico border and had a population of 182,083 in 2017, according to figures from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Jones will hire his new assistant city manager from within his current executive leadership team, according to Hutto Executive Director of Communications Eliska Padilla.

Ramirez will serve her last day as assistant city manager with the city of Hutto on Feb. 15. The next Hutto City Council meeting is scheduled for Feb. 7.

“I will always treasure this time spent leading and learning under Odis as my city manager along with the entire executive team while serving the Hutto community. The amazing things we have accomplished will propel me as I take on this new challenge in Brownsville as deputy city manager," Ramirez said in the press release.
