The first phase of final development plans for the Covered Bridge residential development, located off of CR 138 to the east of the Lakeside Estates neighborhood, was approved by the Hutto Planning and Zoning Commission during its meeting June 1.

The phase of the Covered Bridge development spans over 25 acres and will consist of 120 single-family residential lots.

Commission Member Rick Hudson expressed concern over construction traffic possibility cutting through Lakeside Estates, specifically Marjorie Drive and Kaatz Lane. The commission approved the plans for the development on the condition that temporary barricades be placed at the ends of those two streets during construction, requiring construction trucks to use CR 138.

Construction plans need to be approved by the city engineer before construction can start in the development, Director of Planning Ashby Grundman said. The second and final phase of the development will be located north of Kaatz, but that phase has not been presented to the commission yet.
