Huffin’ Hippos Run Club
Jenni Myers, owner of the Huffin’ Hippos Run Club Facebook group, joined the club in 2023. She was looking to meet people in the community after living in the area for a few years, and though she wasn’t a runner at the time, Myers said the group welcomed and motivated her.
The club’s motto is “for all faces with all paces” to emphasize that everyone is welcome. The group currently has about 730 members on the Facebook page, with a core group of around 30 people, Myers said. Several participants had never run prior to joining the Huffin’ Hippos, Myers said, and have now completed half and full marathons.
“It looks like we're just a run club, but there's a bit more to that,” Myers said, “It's a family kind of thing.”
The group meets on Saturdays at 8 a.m. in Hutto Lake Park, on Sundays for a long run at 8 a.m. at Joe B. Freeman Park in Round Rock, and on Thursdays at 6 p.m. on the Hutto Ninth Grade Center track. The group also plans to meet Tuesdays with a time and date to be announced, according to the Facebook page.
Before each run, club members take a photo together and complete an icebreaker. Afterwards, everyone waits until the last runner has finished before taking a post-run picture. Attendees can then head to a coffee shop or cafe to socialize with fellow Huffin’ Hippos.

Mark King opened Fleet Feet in Round Rock in 2013 and opted to host a run club at the location. Neal Amador joined a Fleet Feet run club in 2015 and in early 2016 he took over as director, with a focus on mentoring and coaching fellow runners.
Fleet Feet has run clubs in Round Rock, Leander and Georgetown with weekly social runs at the Fleet Feet stores in Round Rock and Georgetown, according to the website. The run clubs have a 5K and 10K programs available for runners with scheduled training sessions and goal races.
The clubs have seasonal programs, including the winter 5K program in Round Rock where runners can register for $75 and participate in weekly training on Tuesdays and Saturdays, beginning Jan. 20.
“If you're looking at getting into fitness, getting into running, getting into walking, just want to get out and meet with a group of people, it's a great way to do that and it's a great way to hold yourself accountable,” Amador said. “It really helps to have that community behind you.”
