During its 2014 Education Progress Reports luncheon April 3, the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce acknowledged the achievements of Austin ISD Superintendent Meria Carstarphen, who was announced last week as the sole finalist to lead Atlanta Public Schools.
Carstarphen thanked the chamber and said AISD should continue to use best practices to continue to support children throughout the district and recruit future leadership.
"I know the politics will be crazy," she said. "I know that there are a lot of things that are still ahead of our school district and our city as we try to put everything right for kids, but we're on a positive trajectory. I know that if we just had maybe three more years we'd probably have everybody at 90 percent graduation rates, so whoever ends up being superintendent, you keep holding them to that because our people are working toward that, and we can get there."
