The Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, which is responsible for coordinating regional transportation efforts, is hosting six public meetings to receive feedback about the public's priorities.
CAMPO covers six counties in Central Texas: Bastrop, Burnet, Caldwell, Hays, Travis and Williamson. It is responsible for approving the use of federal transportation dollars as well as creating a long-range regional transportation plan. The agency began working on its 2040 plan last May, and the CAMPO transportation policy board will adopt the plan by May 2015.
The policy board is a group of elected officials and stakeholders from each county and is led by Hays County Commissioner Will Conley. Other members include Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell, Travis County Judge Sam Biscoe and Williamson County Commissioner Cynthia Long.
Attendees of the public meetings will be able to comment on CAMPO's short-term plans, referred to as the Transportation Improvement Program, for fiscal years 2013–16 and development of the TIP for fiscal years 2015–18 that the policy board is slated to adopt in April. TIPs are adopted every two years, and the regional transportation plans are adopted every five years.
