The Austin ISD board of trustees advised staff at a Sept. 22 meeting to set up opportunities for the public to question the superintendent candidates later this year.
The school district is seeking a new superintendent after Meria Carstarphen left AISD earlier this year to lead Atlanta Public Schools. With applications for the AISD superintendent position due Oct. 20, trustees are preparing for interviews and the selection process.
Much of the trustees' Sept. 22 discussion dealt with details of how to organize the public forum, including what should be televised, whether members of the community will be able to ask candidates questions directly and whether a committee consisting of representatives from various stakeholder organizations should help to conduct interviews with the candidates.
