Acosta, Fletcher take PISD board elections

Unofficial voting results from Williamson County show Mario Acosta has won Place 3 and Carol Fletcher has won Place 5 on the Pflugerville ISD Board of Trustees.
Acosta tallied 54.4 percent of the vote to beat challenger Tony Hanson.
"I'm feeling great," Acosta said. "I had always thought [this vote] was going to be another opportunity for the community to express their opinion on the [board's] domestic partner decision."
Fletcher took 57.2 percent of the votes to challenger Lance Sandlin's 42.8 percent.
"I'm very pleased that the voters of Pflugerville took a stand for knowledge, experience and equality," Fletcher said.
Both trustees will serve terms through May 2016. Place 4 on the board was also up for election, but incumbent Vernagene Mott ran unopposed.
Vote totals are unofficial until canvassed.

Early voting results show incumbent Mario Acosta leading in the Place 3 race and incumbent Carol Fletcher winning for Place 5 on the Pflugerville ISD Board of Trustees.
Acosta had tallied 980 votes over challenger Tony Hanson's 930 in early voting.
Acosta has served on the board for three years after being elected in 2010. He said his top priorities if re-elected are hiring a new superintendent, developing a bond proposal, transitioning into state testing accountability standards and keeping a balanced budget.
For Place 5, Fletcher is leading Lance Sandlin with 1,030 early votes over Sandlin's 880.
Fletcher has served on the board for 12 years after being elected in 2001. Fletcher said her immediate priorities if re-elected are selecting a new superintendent and challenging students academically while teaching them skills necessary for life after school.
Both trustees will serve terms through May 2016. Place 4 on the board was also up for election, but incumbent Vernagene Mott ran unopposed.
