The Travis County BMX Park held its grand opening Aug. 7.[/caption]

A $2.6 million BMX racetrack will hold its grand opening in Pflugerville Aug. 7 and features a mixed surface track, concession area, shaded spectator area and pedestrian paths.

The Travis County project was constructed at Northeast Metropolitan Park, a multi-use athletic complex that includes baseball fields, soccer fields and a skate park.

The track is sanctioned by the USA Bicycle Moto Cross organization and is the first track of its size and dimensions in North America, according to a Travis County statement.

BMX racing events Aug. 7 weekend

Local Race: Friday, August 7th. Signups from 6-7:30 p.m.   Racing 7:50-9 p.m.

Race for Life Race: Saturday, August 8th. Signups from noon-2 p.m. Racing at 2 p.m.

Double Point State Qualifier Race: August 9th. Signups from 9-11 a.m. Racing at 11 a.m.
