Food Network show "Cupcake Wars" highlights Cupprimo Cupcakery on Jan. 29

She and Stelly headed to Los Angeles in late fall to shoot the episode. Brown said she enjoyed getting to know the three other cupcake business owners and how they ran their businesses.

"The other owners, they were amazing," she said. "They're trying to produce and a great product and trying to make their communities better."

Cupprimo offers a wide range of flavors, from margarita to Funfetti, and bakes gluten-free cupcakes daily.

"We bake whatever our customers ask for," she said. "If they called in the a.m. with a big order for 300 cupcakes, we can do it."

It is this ability to handle the exposure that comes from being on a reality TV show competition that Food Network show producers look for when selecting contestants.

Brown wasn't Twitter- or Facebook-savvy when she opened Cupprimo three-and-a-half years ago. Through the prodding and guidance from her loyal customers, she set up various social media accounts to display her cupcakes and create a space for customer comments.

Last year, she noticed the Facebook account for the Food Network Channel and "Cupcake Wars" had started following her business. It was not long after when producers for "Cupcake Wars" called her in September about appearing on an episode.

Normally, applicants—nearly 2,000 of them for each season—post a video on YouTube and the producers sift through the videos to select contestants, Brown said.

Once in Los Angeles, Brown said she learned about lot of the production side of shooting a TV episode. She said it surprised her at how many people it takes to create one show.

Although Brown is not allowed to give away any details about the show or which contestant won, she can say that in one of the competitions she created three cupcakes honoring the 60th anniversary of "I Love Lucy," a show she grew up watching.

Brown is hosting a viewing party Sunday to watch the episode at the Dig Pub, 401 Cypress Creek Road, Ste. 600, in Cedar Park. Instead of charging a cover to enter, she will ask people to make a donation to scholarship for a pastry chef at the Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts in Austin.
