Dr. Cade Smith, superintendent of New Braunfels ISD, submitted his resignation effective March 13.

The NBISD board of trustees also accepted his resignation at that time.

Smith began his tenure as superintendent in June 2021 after serving as superintendent in Brock ISD and in roles in Georgetown ISD.

In an emailed letter to parents, NBISD Board President Eric Bergquist wrote that Kara Bock, former New Braunfels High School principal and current assistant superintendent for curriculum and accountability, would serve as acting superintendent of schools until an interim superintendent can be found to begin work at NBISD.

“We understand and respect his personal decision to resign is not an easy one, and we want to thank Dr. Smith for his hard work and dedication to our district. He was committed to our students and staff,” Bergquist said in the letter. “We remain committed to providing our students with the best possible education, and we believe in our administrative team, teachers and staff here in New Braunfels ISD. With the support of our students, staff and community, we will continue to build on the progress we, as a district, have made over the last two years.”
