The Root Cellar Cafe opened its New Braunfels location in the former New Braunfels Smokehouse restaurant and retail space at 1090 N. Business I-35 on March 7.

Kyle Mylius, founder, owner and Chief Visionary Officer for Root Cellar Cafe said they were excited about the opportunity to fill that space.

“We’ve known for, probably a few years, that the time was coming for us to expand the Root Cellar brand. And for us, it was really important not to get impatient and to just be diligent about finding the perfect space that fits our brand and can create a very unique dining experience,” Mylius said.

One of the things that Mylius thought made the building unique was the fact that it was built under several 100-year-old oak trees.

“It's obviously a high traffic area. We're just just off of 35, just off of 46 and located on business 35. But you don't feel like you're in the middle of all those busy roads, because they did such an excellent job of designing the space to kind of nestle in under the trees and you feel like you're on a beautiful little island there.”

The restaurant has had a downtown San Marcos location for almost 20 years and serves American cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Root Cellar Cafe is part of the Taproot Restaurant Collective that owns Tin Top Burgers and Beer, Rhea’s Ice Cream, The Gruene Grove and more. The Root Cellar Cafe will be open Tuesday through Sunday from 8 a.m.-9 p.m.. but as of right now they will be open Wednesday through Sunday 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. 830-632-5114.
