The Pedernales Electric Cooperative sent 21 employees to help with Hurricane Irma recovery in Quincy, Florida, on Monday, according to a statement from the PEC.
After Irma hit Florida over the weekend, the Talquin Electric Cooperative—which services portions of Tallahassee and its surrounding area—had over 32,000 meters without service, according to an
online alert from the cooperative. As of Tuesday, the electric cooperative had restored service to over 82 percent of meters previously without power, according to the same alert.
PEC construction crews, service crews, safety department employees and engineering department staffers were dispatched to assist the Talquin Electric Cooperative in recovery efforts, according to the PEC statement.
“Restoring power after a storm of this magnitude is not easy, and we’re happy to offer our crews and resources to help bring electricity back to their community,” PEC Vice President of Operations Wayne McKee said in the statement.
The team of PEC employees is expected to remain out of state for eight days, according to the PEC statement.
PEC crew members were also sent to help with power restoration in the southeast Texas city of Ganado after Hurricane Harvey a few weeks ago.
