The start of the school year is just around the corner, and parents in Leander ISD can now register their student for the district’s prekindergarten system. Pre-K registration is available at any of the elementary school locations during business hours. For those who prefer to not go to the school during the week or are not able, the district is offering an open registration event from 9 a.m.-noon Aug. 5. People can register at:
  • Bagdad Elementary, 800 Deercreek Lane, Leander
  • Block House Creek Elementary, 401 Creek Run, Leander
  • Faubion Elementary, 1209 Cypress Creek Road, Cedar Park
  • Giddens Elementary, 1500 Timberwood Drive, Cedar Park
  • Grandview Hills Elementary, 12024 Vista Parke Drive, Austin
LISD does have pre-K eligibility requirements. Along with being 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, students should meet one of the following criteria. They should be:
  • unable to speak and comprehend English; or
  • eligible to participate in the national free and reduced meal program
  • homeless, regardless of the residence of the child, of either parent of the child, or of the child's guardian; or
  • the child of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who is ordered to active duty; or
  • the child of a member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who was injured or killed while serving on active duty; or
  • in the guardianship, or have been in guardianship, of the Department of Family and Protective Services following an adversary hearing held as provided by Section 262.201, Family Code; or
  • the child of a person eligible for the Star of Texas Award as
    • a peace officer
    • a firefighter
    • an emergency medical first responder
