The city of Bee Cave will be hosting its grand opening celebration for the debut of its first open-air ice skating rink Nov. 5.

The celebration, called Bee Cave on Ice, will be in front of the Bee Cave Public Library at the Hill Country Galleria. The rink will run through January and can support up to 120 people at a time, according to the city. Skates will be available for rent for $10-$15 an hour.

The grand opening begins at 5 p.m. on Nov. 5 and will feature live music, figure skaters, giveaways for kids and an appearance from several of Disney’s "Frozen" characters.

Reservations for the ice skating rink will be available through a reservation portal on Bee Cave’s city website in the next few weeks.

At the July 26 council meeting, the city authorized $300,000 in hotel occupancy tax funds for rink delivery and setup through an agreement with the Hill Country Galleria and Ire Crown Rinks. The city is responsible for the installation of the rink as well as running electricity and water to it.

The motion passed by council permits the city to develop a separate reimbursement agreement for the Hill Country Galleria to repay some or all of the hotel occupancy tax funds used for the project. The attraction could generate anywhere from $382,000-$540,000 at $15 a skate rental, according to the city.
