Students at Eanes ISD’s Cedar Creek Elementary School will begin the 2021-22 school year with a new principal.

The EISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved Laura Coaxum as the CCE principal during an April 27 board meeting.

Her hiring follows a process of stakeholder input, surveys and candidate interviews that involved more than 50 staff members, students and parents, according to a news release from the district.

Coaxum currently serves as the assistant principal within the district’s Barton Creek Elementary School. Prior to her career at EISD, she served as an elementary school teacher at Austin ISD, an instructional coach at Round Rock ISD and worked for the Texas Education Agency.

She also holds a Masters of Education from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Bachelor of Science in applied learning and development with a minor in childhood studies from the University of Texas at Austin.

Coaxum will fill a post currently held by the 2020-21 interim principal Brad Wirht, who was brought on in May 2020.

“I am incredibly excited to join the Cedar Creek family and continue my journey in Eanes ISD,” Coaxum said in the release.
