Kevin Jones and Chad Worner have been brewing beers in the Austin area since 2018, when the duo launched Frontyard Brewing from a small warehouse on Cuernavaca Drive.

Now, with several years and awards to their names, Jones and Worner are celebrating the Nov. 14 opening of their first public taproom in the Texas Hill Country.

Worner said they came across the sprawling 9-acre Spicewood site over two years ago. At that time, the property was occupied by Shannon Grant and Chris Carson, who were gearing up to open their new winery, 5 Soul Wine Co. The owners of the companies decided to come together and share the property with the hopes of opening a family-friendly, community-driven spot for Austinites, Worner said.Grant said the partnership allows the companies to enhance the space. Jones, who serves as Frontyard’s brewmaster, said the taproom offers about 16 different beers, from a coffee milk stout to a honey blonde kölsch and a house-made root beer for kids.

5 Soul Wine Co., which opened in early December, also aims to offer a variety of wines, according to Grant, who has over 25 years of experience in the industry.

The location at 4514 Bob Wire Road, Spicewood, will also feature a food truck, Gathered Farm to Trailer, and is equipped with pickleball courts, space heaters, fire pits, a jungle gym and seating.
