The Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization dedicated about $131 million in federal funding for nine road projects and one trail project in Williamson County, according to a June 12 county news release.
About the projects
Parmer Lane at Hwy. 45 interchange (Northwest Austin)
- Project: Williamson County and the Texas Department of Transportation are working to improve the traffic flow and safety of the interchange by widening the road from four to six lanes, adding turn lanes and installing sidewalks and shared use paths.
- Status: Engineering firm Benesch completed preliminary design work earlier this year, and construction is anticipated to begin this summer, according to county documents.
- Project: The project aims to reduce traffic congestion by providing an alternative route around the Hwy. 29 and US 183 intersections. This portion of the project will construct the roadway from Hwy. 29 and CR 213 intersection to the Hwy. 183 and CR 213 intersection.
- Status: Engineering firm LJA completed the roadway schematics this spring. The east portion of the project will go under construction first, anticipated to be completed in 2028.
- Project: The project includes the construction of an overpass at the intersection of Chandler Road and FM 1660.
- Status: The project is in the planning phase and will cost an anticipated $20 million.
- Project: This segment from Hwy. 29 to US 971 is part of the larger East Wilco Highway project that will connect SH 130 to North I-35 through a controlled-access highway.
- Status: The study and schematic design of this segment was completed in the spring of 2024. Project engineer Halff completed the final design this spring.
- Project: The project will widen Red Bud Lane from two to five lanes from Gattis School Road to Heatherwilde Boulevard.
- Status: Construction is anticipated to begin this fall and to be completed in fall 2027.
- Project: A segment of the Ronald Reagan Boulevard corridor project will construct a separate two-lane road to serve as the southbound frontage road of the future ultimate eight-lane roadway and switch the existing roadway to a northbound-only roadway, with a divided median.
- Status: Engineer STV completed the final design this spring, and construction is anticipated to begin in fall 2026 and be completed in fall 2028.
- Project: The project will realign and reconstruct the two-lane road to a three-lane road with a center turn lane and shoulders from Loop 332 to CR 281.
- Status: Project engineer Binkley & Barfield is anticipated to complete the design schematic by this summer, and construction is expected to begin in early 2027.
- Project: A segment of the Ronald Reagan Boulevard corridor project will construct a separate two-lane road to serve as the southbound frontage road of the future ultimate eight-lane roadway and switch the existing roadway to a northbound-only roadway, with a divided median.
- Status: Engineer American StructurePoint completed the final design this spring, and construction is expected to begin this summer and be completed in spring 2029.
- Project: The trail project will construct 1.5 miles of 10-foot-wide concrete, as part of the Brushy Creek Regional Trail between Faith Missionary Baptist Church and the Sauls Ranch West subdivision.
- Status: Design is complete, and the project will continue to progress after receiving permitting and funding.
