The second annual Field of Honor kicks off in Georgetown Saturday, Nov. 3 and continues through Monday, Nov. 12. About 18,000 full-sized flags are expected to fly over San Gabriel Park to honor first responders and veterans.

Saturday, Nov. 3


Field set up and First Responders Day – 9 a.m.-6 p.m.

Georgetown police and fire and Williamson County Sheriff and EMS, as well as volunteers, will set up the field of flags.

Sunday, Nov. 4


Opening Ceremonies – 2 p.m.

The events include music by Fort Hood’s 1st Calvary Band and a presentation of colors by the Patriot Guard Riders. There will also be a parade, a vintage military-vehicle display and a 21-gun salute by The Sons of the Republic of Texas, among other events.

Interfaith blessing of the field and celebration of gratitude – 3:30 p.m.

The event will include a presentation by the Buffalo Soldiers and art exhibit of American heroes for WWI and WWII.

Monday, Nov. 5


Rotary multi-club luncheon meeting – 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Veterans and first responders will be honored at the meeting. Registration is required.

Tuesday, Nov. 6


The Final Salute – 7-8:30 p.m.

Boy Scout Troop 155 will present a moving flag-retirement ceremony with performances by the Village Elementary School Choir.

Wednesday, Nov. 7


Meet Benjamin Franklin – 7-8 p.m.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet a Benjamin Franklin impersonator and take photos.

Thursday, Nov. 8


Patriotic Concert and Readings of Letters from War – 7 p.m.

Friday, Nov. 9


Tribute to Purple Heart Recipients – 7 p.m.

The Military Order of the Purple Heart will conduct the tribute and give a presentation of quilts of valor in honor of local heroes.

Saturday, Nov. 10


 Honor Walk 5K – 8 a.m.

Local organizations walk in honor of a hero along the North San Gabriel River.

Veterans and First Responders Resource Expo – 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Put on by the Sun City Rotary Club, the expo offers first responders and veterans an opportunity to discover many available state and local services.

Patriot Ball – 6 p.m.

An evening of elegance, food, music, dancing and a live auction will be held at the Sheraton Austin Georgetown Hotel & Conference Center, 1101 Woodlawn Ave., Georgetown.

Bell ringing ceremony – 11 a.m.

A bell-ringing ceremony in honor of the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day. Bells will be tolled 21 times around the county in commemoration of those who haves served and sacrificed.

Honor Flight Reunion and Tribute to War Veterans – 2 p.m.

Over 2,000 veterans were flown to Washington, D.C. by Honor Flight Austin. They will share their experiences of seeing the memorial erected in their honor.

Monday, Nov. 12


Sun City Tribute to Veterans – 11 a.m.

A tribute will be held at Georgetown-Williamson County Veterans Memorial Plaza, 2 Texas Drive, Sun City, Georgetown.

Closing ceremonies – 3 p.m.
