Local nonprofit Georgetown Free Bikes will relocate to a new facility in late March.

Current situation

The nonprofit will move from the founder’s garage at 2000 Dawn Drive, Georgetown, to 2055 FM 1460 in Georgetown, which was previously home to Rabbit Hill School, according to a news release.

Georgetown Free Bikes’ mission is to transform the community through bicycle access, per the release. The nonprofit refurbishes and distributes bikes to those in need through donations, volunteer Chuck Kainer said.

“What started as a simple idea in a garage has blossomed into a community movement,” Georgetown Free Bikes founder Jeff Radke said in the release. “This expansion represents the incredible support we've received and will allow us to help even more residents experience the freedom and joy of cycling.”

The impact

Over the span of about two years, the nonprofit distributed more than 1,000 bicycles to the community, per the release. This will be the nonprofit’s first official brick and mortar location, Kainer said.
