Update: Published Sept. 8 at 3:45 p.m. Despite the new name, an updated menu and a renovated space, Ivar's River Pub will still be owned and operated by the same San Marcos family, who say they're happy to be back in business in 2017. “We’re super excited that it’s finally starting to happen,” Bar Manager Loree Gunnarson said. “We’re obviously a local family and part of the community, and we’re stoked to be bringing the River Pub back and bigger and better than it ever was.” She said the new name is an homage to Ivar Gunnarson, the previous owner of the River Pub, who passed away years ago. “Ivar was a very strong member of the San Marcos community for many years,” she said. “For us, it’s a great way to pay tribute to a great member of the community, who just happened to be our father and grandfather.” Published Sept. 7 at 10:33 a.m. The River Pub, known for its riverside location near the Rio Vista falls and its Mexican martinis, will reopen as Ivar’s River Pub at 701 Cheatham St., San Marcos, in either February or March. The menu will feature all-American comfort food like the restaurant previously served, along with some new additions, a company representative said. The building is currently undergoing remodeling. The River Pub closed several years ago and the property has remained vacant since the restaurant's closure.
