Bridget Dunlap—the entrepreneur behind establishments such as The Container Bar, Clive bar and Burn Pizza + Bar—launched two more concepts during the past month, adding to the group of nearly a dozen Austin restaurants and bars Dunlap refers to as her children. Lustre Pearl Rainey and Parlor & Yard are distinct both from each other and from Dunlap's previous ventures, she said. Dunlap said Parlor & Yard sports bar was designed to feel cozy and a bit "like your grandad's living room" while the Lustre Pearl bar is rustic and feminine. "[Lustre Pearl] is a lady; she's a party girl," Dunlap said. Lustre Pearl is now occupying its second location—a renovated house—on downtown's Rainey Street. The bar's original structure, which was moved to East Austin, is now known as Lustre Pearl East. Dunlap is the creative force behind all her bar and restaurant concepts. While she now has an extensive staff, she designs each establishment and views them as extensions of herself, Dunlap said. After opening her first bar, the original Lustre Pearl on Rainey Street, in 2009, Dunlap said it was hard to stop herself from launching new ventures. "I call it mania," Dunlap said, laughing. "There's something addictive about it. My thought process was to keep moving while its hot, but I was still having fun." Dunlap said after opening 10 bar and restaurant concepts in seven years it is time to take a break. The Austin entrepreneur said she is currently on a hiatus and is using her time off to rest and work on her memoir but also said—given her track record—she may not be finished adding to her family. "I don't know if you should believe [that I'm slowing down]," Dunlap said. "I'm probably fibbing a little bit." [g-slider gid="142841" width="100%" height="55%"]
