The city of Dallas announced June 6 it has hired Round Rock Fire Chief David Coatney to be chief of its fire-rescue department.
"David Coatney’s leadership for the Round Rock Fire Department has been phenomenal in his five-year tenure here," Round Rock City Manager Laurie Hadley said in a statement. "His professionalism is unmatched, and he has successfully guided the department through a period of significant organizational and capital growth, including the addition of two new stations, both of which are currently under construction."
Coatney will join the Dallas department July 13. He has been the Round Rock Fire Chief since May 1, 2011. Before coming to Round Rock, Coatney worked in the San Antonio Fire Department for 25 years, according to a release from the city of Round Rock.
Assistant Chief Billy Wusterhausen will serve as interim chief while the city of Round Rock conducts a nationwide search for a new fire chief, according to the release.
